A Sculptural Sanctuary on Mayne Island
Poised at the edge of a rocky promontory, Raven House is a reimagined coastal retreat designed by Measured Architecture and built by Powers Construction. Originally designed by Blue Sky Architecture, this expressive structure has been thoughtfully transformed—preserving its spirit, refining its form, and deepening its connection to the landscape.

Architecture

With a sculpted black façade, cantilevered deck, and interiors softened in concrete, maple, and misty light, Raven House distils the elemental drama of its surroundings into a place of calm and clarity.

Led by Clinton Cuddington and Piers Cunnington, Measured Architecture is known for their ability to distil architectural complexity into refined, livable forms. In Raven House, they’ve created something rare—a renovation that respects the past, while writing a new story for the future.

A Contemporary Reawakening
Measured Architecture was tasked with a delicate undertaking: to honour the original design while crafting a quieter, more elemental version of the home. Their response is both respectful and bold—retaining the core structure, yet introducing a swooping black façade, a simplified interior palette, and a cantilevered deck that hovers gently above the untouched terrain.
The result is a sculptural, weather-hardened dwelling, shaped by the wind, the rain, and the light—purpose-built for its setting and elevated in every sense.

Views
Perched 500 feet above the ocean, Raven House offers a commanding perspective—trees give way to sea, and sea to sky, in a continuous, immersive panorama. Whether from the cantilevered deck, the living room, or the freestanding tub in the ensuite, the views invite pause. They aren’t merely scenic—they’re elemental. Tides, clouds, and shifting light move across the landscape like weather through thought. Here, nature doesn’t just surround you—it unfolds before you.

Interior

The interior has been quietly pared back. Yellow cedar walls have been neutralised in whites and greys. Poured concrete floors ground the space, while built-in maple millwork brings warmth and coherence.
The kitchen and principal suite—overlooking the sea—have been reworked to reflect the same restraint. The ensuite offers a wet-room shower, a freestanding tub, and panoramic views.

Grounds
Set within over 50 acres of pristine island landscape, the property offers rare privacy and a deep connection to nature. Winding trails weave through mature forest, opening to sunlit clearings and quiet moments overlooking the sea. A separate guest house provides a private retreat for visitors, while the land itself remains largely untouched—preserved for its stillness, its scale, and its sense of solitude. It’s a setting that expands the experience of the home, offering space to roam, reflect, and remain.
